Nontron lock knife, 1914-1918 model, with wenge handle and T12 blade

This Nontron lock knife is a faithful reproduction of an old model from the 1914-1918 war, handmade by Coutellerie Nontronnaise in Nontron, in the Perigord, home of one of the oldest knife-making traditions in France. Where Nontron knives are traditionally locked by a turning ferrule, this model is the exception to the rule: the heel of the blade hooks into a Z20C13 stainless steel flat spring, called the palm, that covers the back of the handle, and lifting the ring on the flipper unlocks it. The 9 cm blade is made from resistant T12 steel, and the handle is made from wenge. The dark, finely striped wenge gives each knife its own character. Use and care

• Wipe the blade clean with a damp cloth or sponge and dry it immediately
• Never put it in the dishwasher and do not soak it in water
• Treat the wenge handle occasionally with a drop of food-safe oil to keep it beautiful
• Apply a small drop of oil to the pivot from time to time for smooth opening
• Store it in a dry place
